At a time when 12,500 refugees and asylum seekers are wandering homeless on the roads and hills of Lesbos, when those suffering from smoke inhalation and burns from the fire in Moria are prevented by the police<\/a> from reaching the hospital in Mytilene, when solidarity groups bringing basic necessities are blocked by the authorities or attacked by far-right groups, when the Greek government\u2018s only response to this emergency is an assertion of national- security,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we, as European citizens and<\/strong>
citizens of the world, can no longer remain silent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire that ravaged the Moria refugee camp cannot be considered either an accident or the result of a desperate action on the part of those living at the camp. It is the inevitable and foreseeable result<\/a> of European policy that confines tens of thousands of refugees in inhuman conditions on these Greek islands. It is the result of the strategy of the Greek government which, instead of taking effective measures against the spread of Covid-19 in \u201ehot-spots\u201c, has for the past six months imposed extremely harsh limits on the movement of the camp\u2019s inhabitants. In addition to this prolonged confinement, a total lock-down whose effects on the health of those in the camp is more than problematic<\/a>, was imposed a week ago, while people who tested positive for the virus were ordered to remain locked up in a shed 24 hours a day. Such dreadful conditions led straight to disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This intolerable situation, which is a disgrace to Europe, cannot be allowed to continue for even one more day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The immediate evacuation of Moria and the transfer of its inhabitants to the various European cities ready to welcome them<\/a> is a matter of extreme urgency. The same goes for all the other camps in the Greek islands and on the continent. It is worth recalling here that the Greek government has already begun work to transform not only hot-spots but every reception center on the mainland into closed facilities surrounded by double fencing and equipped with security gates. What would have happened if the fire in Moria had occurred in a camp surrounded by a double set of barbed wire with blocked exits? How many thousands of deaths would we be mourning today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us not leave tens of thousands of people whose only crime is to have asked for international protection, at the mercy of a policy concerned only with security, which threatens their safety and even their lives. The Greek government, in the name of the defense of European borders and national security, not only considers itself authorized to violate international law with systematic push-backs in the Aegean Sea and on the border of Evros, but also by prohibiting any transfer of the victims of the Moria fire to the continent. For, apart from the transfer of 406 unaccompanied minors to northern Greece, the Mitsotakis government intends to \u201apunish\u2018 camp residents for the fire by preventing them from leaving Lesbos!<\/a> The Greek government and local authorities are creating a war zone in Lesbos, in the middle of Europe<\/a>. And the only target of this war are the refugees. 12,500 persons are currently in danger,
deprived of all access to sanitary facilities and exposed to attacks by extreme-right groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will not tolerate a situation in which asylum seekers are deprived of all rights, and reduced to the status of non-persons. Let us join together to demand from the European authorities and our governments the immediate evacuation of Moria and all other camps in Greece, as well as the urgent transfer of their residents to the European cities and towns<\/a> that have requested it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOW and not tomorrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dignity and lives of tens of thousands of people are at stake, but also the dignity of every one of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against the policies of exclusion and criminalization of refugees, it is extremely urgent to build \u201eone\u201c world, common to all. Otherwise, we all risk, at any moment, finding ourselves on the wrong side of the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019incendie qui a ravag\u00e9 le camp de Moria ne peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 ni comme un accident ni comme le fait d\u2019une action d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9e. Il est le r\u00e9sultat in\u00e9vitable et pr\u00e9visible<\/a> de la politique europ\u00e9enne qui impose l\u2019enfermement dans les \u00eeles grecques, dans des conditions inhumaines, de dizaines de milliers de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s. C\u2019est le r\u00e9sultat de la strat\u00e9gie du gouvernement grec qui, en lieu et place de mesures effectives contre la propagation du Covid-19 dans des \u201ehot-spots\u201c, a impos\u00e9 \u00e0 ses habitants, depuis six mois d\u00e9j\u00e0, des restrictions de circulation extr\u00eamement contraignantes. A cet enfermement prolong\u00e9, est venu s\u2018y s\u2019ajouter depuis une semaine un confinement total dont l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 sanitaire est plus que probl\u00e9matique<\/a>, tandis que les personnes porteuses du virus ont \u00e9t\u00e9 somm\u00e9es de rester enferm\u00e9es 24h sur 24h dans un hangar. Ces conditions menaient tout droit au d\u00e9sastre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette situation intol\u00e9rable qui fait la honte de l\u2019Europe ne saurait durer un jour de plus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019\u00e9vacuation imm\u00e9diate de Moria dont les habitants peuvent \u00eatre accueillis par les diff\u00e9rentes villes de l\u2019Europe pr\u00eates \u00e0 les recevoir est plus qu\u2019urgente. Il en va de m\u00eame pour tous les autres camps dans les \u00eeles grecques et sur le continent. Faut-il rappeler ici que le gouvernement grec a d\u00e9j\u00e0 entrepris de travaux pour transformer non seulement les hot-spots mais toute autre structure d\u2019accueil sur le continent en centres ferm\u00e9s entour\u00e9s de double cl\u00f4ture et dot\u00e9s de portiques de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 ? Que serait-il arriv\u00e9 si l\u2019incendie de Moria s\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9clar\u00e9 dans un camp entour\u00e9 d\u2019une double s\u00e9rie de barbel\u00e9s avec des sorties bloqu\u00e9es? Combien de milliers de morts aurions-nous \u00e0 d\u00e9plorer aujourd\u2019hui ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ne laissons pas des dizaines de milliers de personnes dont le seul crime est de demander la protection internationale, livr\u00e9es \u00e0 une politique ultra-s\u00e9curitaire extr\u00eamement dangereuse pour leur s\u00e9curit\u00e9 voire leur vie. Le gouvernement grec, au nom de la d\u00e9fense des fronti\u00e8res europ\u00e9ennes et de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale, non seulement se croit autoris\u00e9 \u00e0 violer le droit international avec les refoulements syst\u00e9matiques en mer Eg\u00e9e et \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re d\u2019Evros, mais interdit tout transfert sur le continent des victimes de l\u2019incendie de Moria. Car, mis \u00e0 part le transfert de 406 mineurs isol\u00e9s au nord de la Gr\u00e8ce, le gouvernement Mitsotakis compte \u2018punir\u2019 pour l\u2019incendie les r\u00e9sidents du camp en les bloquant \u00e0 Lesbos<\/a>! Le gouvernement grec et les autorit\u00e9s locales sont en train de cr\u00e9er une zone de guerre \u00e0 Lesbos, au milieu de l\u2019Europe<\/a>. Et la seule cible de cette guerre sont les r\u00e9fugi\u00e9-e-s. 12.500 personnes sont actuellement en danger, priv\u00e9-e-s de tout acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des infrastructures sanitaires et expos\u00e9-e-s aux attaques de groupes d\u2019extr\u00eame-droite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous ne saurions tol\u00e9rer que les requ\u00e9rants d\u2019asile soient priv\u00e9s de tout droit, qu\u2019ils soient r\u00e9duits \u00e0 des non-personnes. Joignons nos voix pour exiger des instances europ\u00e9ennes et de nos gouvernements l\u2019\u00e9vacuation imm\u00e9diate de Moria et la fermeture de tous les camps en Gr\u00e8ce, ainsi que le transfert urgent de leurs r\u00e9sidentes et r\u00e9sidents vers les villes et communes europ\u00e9ennes<\/a> qui se sont d\u00e9clar\u00e9es pr\u00eates \u00e0 les accueillir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAINTENANT et non pas demain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y va de la dignit\u00e9 et de la vie de dizaines de milliers de personnes, mais aussi de notre dignit\u00e9 \u00e0 nous, toutes et tous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contre les politiques d\u2019exclusion et de criminalisations des r\u00e9fugi\u00e9-e-s, il est plus qu\u2019urgent de construire un monde \u00abun\u00bb, commun \u00e0 toutes et \u00e0 tous. Sinon, chacun de nous risque, \u00e0 n\u2019importe quel moment, de se retrouver du mauvais c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la fronti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In einer Zeit, in der 12.500 Gefl\u00fcchtete und Asylsuchende obdachlos auf den Stra\u00dfen und H\u00fcgeln von Lesbos umherirren; wo die durch den Brand in Moria vergifteten und verletzten Personen von der Polizei daran gehindert werden<\/a>, das Krankenhaus in Mytilene zu erreichen; wo Solidarit\u00e4tsgruppe und NGOs, die die Gefl\u00fcchteten mit dem Allern\u00f6tigsten versorgen wollen, von Ordnungskr\u00e4ften blockiert oder von rechtsextremen Gruppen attackiert werden; wo die einzige Antwort der griechischen Regierung auf diesen Notstand, die Betonung der nationalen Sicherheit darstellt<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 in dieser Zeit k\u00f6nnen wir als europ\u00e4ische und Weltb\u00fcrger*innen nicht l\u00e4nger schweigen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Feuer im Fl\u00fcchtlingslager von Moria kann weder als Unfall noch als Verzweiflungstat angesehen werden. Es ist das unvermeidliche und vorhersehbare Ergebnis<\/a> einer europ\u00e4ischen Politik, die Zehntausende von Gefl\u00fcchteten unter unmenschlichen Bedingungen auf den griechischen Inseln festh\u00e4lt. Es ist das Ergebnis einer Politik der griechischen Regierung, die \u2013 anstatt wirksame Ma\u00dfnahmen gegen die Ausbreitung von Covid-19 in den Hotspot-Lagern zu ergreifen \u2013 seit sechs Monaten nicht anderes macht, als die Bewegungsfreiheit der Bewohner*innen massiv einzuschr\u00e4nken. Letzte Woche wurde das Lager dann vollst\u00e4ndig abgeriegelt \u2013 obwohl die Wirksamkeit einer Kollektivquarant\u00e4ne mehr als fragw\u00fcrdig ist<\/a>. Positiv getesteten Menschen wurde angedroht, 24 Stunden pro Tag in einem Container eingeschlossen zu bleiben. Diese Bedingungen f\u00fchrten geradewegs in die Katastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diese untragbare Situation, eine Schande f\u00fcr Europa, darf keinen weiteren Tag mehr andauern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die sofortige Evakuierung Morias und die Umsiedlung der Bewohner*innen in aufnahmebereite europ\u00e4ische St\u00e4dte<\/a>, ist mehr als dringlich. Dasselbe gilt f\u00fcr alle anderen Lager auf den griechischen Inseln und auf dem Kontinent \u2013 auch angesichts der Absicht der griechischen Regierung, nicht nur die Hotspot-Lager, sondern alle anderen Aufnahmestrukturen in geschlossene Camps umzuwandeln. Diese Gef\u00e4ngnislager sollen doppelt umz\u00e4unt und mit Sicherheitstechnologien wie elektronischen Toren ausgestattet werden. Was w\u00e4re passiert, wenn das Feuer in Moria in so einem stacheldrahtumz\u00e4unten Lager ausgebrochen w\u00e4re, dessen Ausg\u00e4nge durch elektrische Tore blockiert gewesen w\u00e4ren? Um wie viele Tausende von Toten m\u00fcssten wir heute trauern?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir d\u00fcrfen Zehntausende Menschen, deren einziges \u201eVerbrechen\u201c darin besteht, internationalen Schutz zu suchen, nicht dieser vermeintlichen Ordnungs-Politik \u00fcberlassen, welche die Sicherheit der Menschen und ihr Leben einer extremen Gefahr aussetzt. Die griechische Regierung ist im Namen der Verteidigung der europ\u00e4ischen Grenzen und der nationalen
Sicherheit nicht nur der Meinung, dass sie mit systematischen Pushbacks in der \u00c4g\u00e4is und an der Landes-Grenze am Evros gegen das V\u00f6lkerrecht versto\u00dfen darf; Sie ist auch strikt gegen jeden Transfer der Opfer des Brandes in Moria auf das Festland. Abgesehen von der \u00dcberstellung von 406 unbegleiteten Minderj\u00e4hrigen will die Regierung Mitsotakis die Lagerbewohner*innen f\u00fcr das Feuer \u201ebestrafen\u201c und sie auf der Insel festhalten<\/a>! 12.500 Gefl\u00fcchtete sind dadurch in akuter Gefahr und ohne jegliche Lebensgrundlage wie ausreichend Essen oder Zugang zu sanit\u00e4ren Einrichtungen den Angriffen rechtsextremer Gruppen ausgesetzt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir k\u00f6nnen nicht tolerieren, dass Gefl\u00fcchtete aller Rechte beraubt werden, dass sie auf Nicht-Personen reduziert werden. Schlie\u00dfen wir uns den Stimmen an, die von den europ\u00e4ischen Beh\u00f6rden und unseren Regierungen die sofortige Evakuierung Morias und aller Lager in Griechenland fordern sowie die dringende Evakuierung ihrer Bewohner*innen in aufnahmebereite europ\u00e4ischen St\u00e4dte und Gemeinden.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die W\u00fcrde und das Leben von Zehntausenden von Menschen stehen auf dem Spiel, aber auch die W\u00fcrde von uns allen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gegen die Politik der Ausgrenzung und Kriminalisierung von Gefl\u00fcchteten ist es mehr als dringlich, eine allen gemeinsame Welt aufzubauen. Andernfalls riskiert jede*r von uns, einmal auf der falschen Seite der Grenze zu stehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
