The online Workshop to the 2nd Summer School in Migration

The online Workshop to the 2nd Summer School in Migration

The workshop held on Saturday 7th November 2020 brought together researchers, as well as master’s and doctoral students who are working on issues related to the European border regime at the peripheries of EU.

Workshop participants: Antonia de Castro Burica (University of Zadar), Santiago Escobar (European University Viadrina, Frankfurt Oder), dr. sc. Valentina Faggiani (University of Granada), Iva Grubiša (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb), Teodora Jovanović (Institute of Ethnography SASA, Belgrade),  Bojan Mucko (Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, Zagreb), Maja Osmančević (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb) and Kristina Pokasić (University of Nottingham).

The aim of the workshop was to offer a space where researchers can connect and discuss their research insights, as well as share any dilemmas they may have concerning their research as a result of the current pandemic. Based on the presentations of the individual research projects of the participants, the discussion focused on the following points:

  • Fieldwork relations – issues on how to negotiate field relations, particularly those relations that have become close
  • Ethnographic knowledge – how to present knowledge from fieldwork? What media forms could be used beyond the academic text (films, novels, video) and in academic text?
  • Analytical perspectives: time – space relations etc.

The online workshop is a precursor to the 2nd Summer School in Migration (Rijeka, Croatia) that was planned for 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been postponed for 2021. The 2nd Summer School in Migration is a joint project organised by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research (Croatia) as part of the research project The European Irregularized Migration Regime at the Periphery of the EU: from Ethnography to Keywords ERIM (HRZZ IP 2019-04-6642), the University of Göttingen, Department of Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology (Germany), the Institute of Ethnography of the Serbian Academy of Sciences (Serbia), the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Slovenia), and the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Cultural Studies and Center for Advanced Studies – South Eastern Europe (Croatia).
