Bojan Mucko

Bojan Mucko (Varaždin, 1983) graduated from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with a degree in Philosophy, Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology (2013) and from the Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in Animated Film and New Media (2014). He finished the RESTART School of Documentary Film in 2015. He has collaborated as a researcher and artist with various cultural civil society organisations (Association for Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Research, Shadow Casters, BLOK, Gallery Miroslav Kraljević, PANGOLIN, POGON, SF:ius, Association of Croatian Architects, Croatian Society of Fine Artists, Croatian Society of Designers, RADIONA) and museum institutions (Ethnographic Museum, Ethnographic museum of Istria, Varaždin City Museum).He is interested in examining the disciplinary boundaries between contemporary art practices and cultural anthropology through interdisciplinary projects. As a new media artist, he has presented his work at many domestic international exhibitions and projects. He participated in the European artistic platform Corners of Europe from 2014 to 2017, focusing on projects involving marginalised local communities across Europe (organised by the Zagreb Centre for Independent Culture and Youth). From 2014 to 2019, he worked as a freelance journalist and video editor for the national television. He contributed to various TV shows from the cultural, scientific and social domains – Scientific Circles (“Znanstveni krugovi”, HRT1), Transfer (HRT3), PRIZMA (HRT1), 2020 for Rijeka (“2020 za Rijeku”, HRT3). From 2011 to 2019, he was involved with the organisation of the ETNOFILm international festival of ethnographic documentary film (organised by the Ethnographic museum of Istria). From 2017, to 2019, he was the project leader for the Marginality/Point of communication project which was conceptualised to empower socially deprived groups of Romani people (living in ghettoised districts on the outskirts of Zagreb) using artistic and anthropological tools (Gallery Miroslav Kraljević). In 2019, he was a guest lecturer at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Zadar (Visual Culture course held by Associate Professor Senka Božić-Vrbančić, PhD). He enrolled in the doctoral study programme of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the same department (under the mentorship of Marijana Hameršak, PhD). Since 2020, he has been employed as a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research on the project The European Irregularized Migration Regime at the Periphery of the EU: from Ethnography to Keywords (ERIM) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation.
